Jingo-Jango

2022 - 2023

This bespoke performance for both Nevada State University and the University of Derby under the research body, MALETA, critically considers the colonial British legacy in the Americas.

Jingo Jango – colloquially translating to ‘ridiculous patriotic war mongerer’ – seeks to critique the gestural, performative behaviours of both the ignorant tourist and the audacious coloniser as a homogenised caricature. This work provides an experimental, yet problematic tackling of this burden with an attempted unshackling of a regrettable yet acknowledged ancestral history.
